π΄ The Commuta Charter
Our Community Values Β· April 2026 Trial
Commuta exists because we believe the journey matters β not just the destination. Every person who chooses to walk, run, cycle
or otherwise actively travel is doing something quietly extraordinary: improving their own health, clearing the air for their
neighbours, and making the roads a little better for everyone. The Commuta Charter sets out the values we ask every Commuta
member to carry with them.
We commute actively because it matters. Every km walked, run, cycled or otherwise actively travelled
is a real reduction in emissions, pollution, congestion and noise. We take that seriously β and we're proud of it.
Active travel is one of the most powerful things we can do for our physical and mental health.
We show up, even when it's cold or dark, because we know how good it feels afterwards. Safety is paramount β we wear
helmets, ensure front and back bike lights are charged and carry essential spares, rain gear and layers.
We share our streets with pedestrians, cyclists, drivers and children. We give way. We slow down.
We make eye contact and smile. The road is a shared space β we treat all those with whom we share it with courtesy and
mutual respect.
We stop at red lights, stop signs and pedestrian crossings. We encourage use of cycle lanes
where provided. We signal before turning. We respect pedestrians and we don't hop pavements. Every time we bend the
rules, we make the road less safe for everyone.
When we commute actively, we represent every active traveller. Our behaviour shapes how drivers,
planners and policy-makers see us. We run, ride and wheel as the happy people we want others to know we are.
We encourage colleagues, friends, family and neighbours to join us. We share our routes, our
experience and tips, our enthusiasm and our smiles. Every person we bring along multiplies our collective impact.
